Alfa-kassan is responsible for personal data and must provide information when it is collected and if you request it. Your personal data is processed per the provisions of the data protection regulation, GDPR.
What is personal data?
Personal data is any information directly or indirectly linked to a natural person. Examples of personal data are name, social security number, postal address, and e-mail address. We process your personal data, among other things, when you apply for membership at Alfa-kassan and when you apply for benefits from us. You have the right to know when we collect data about you. This applies when you provide information yourself or when we receive information about you from someone else.
Who can you give my personal data to?
We release and collect your personal data from various actors to handle your case with us. For example, we provide information to the Employment Service (Arbetsförmedlingen), the Swedish Social Insurance Agency (Försäkringskassan), the Swedish Tax Agency (Skatteverket), Swedbank, and the Central Study Support Board (CSN).
How do you use my personal data?
Unemployment insurance funds are associations with a statutory mandate to exercise public authority.
We need to process your personal data to fulfill our statutory mission. We do this mainly with the support of the General Data Protection Regulation as part of our exercise of authority, public interest, or because we have legal obligations.
In isolated cases, we may process your personal data based on your consent. For example, if you want us to disclose information about you to safety organizations. When we use consent as a legal basis, we will inform you of this when we ask for your consent.
We process your personal data for one or more of the following purposes:
- Information and counseling
- Managing memberships, ongoing registrations, and leavings
- Investigating the right to unemployment benefits and paying unemployment benefits
- Control work and prevent erroneous payments
- Recovering incorrectly paid benefits and related debt management
- Comply with the laws and regulations that apply to our activities
- Developing our operations and service to you as a member and/or recipient of benefits
- Develop and test our systems to ensure that our operations are carried out in a safe manner
- Statistics and research
How long is my personal data saved?
According to the GDPR, we may not save personal data for longer than necessary. When the data is no longer needed, it is deleted. The data may, however, be kept for historical, statistical, or scientific purposes defined in the unemployment fund’s archive regulations.
The unemployment insurance funds are required by The Accounting to save data for a certain period. The data covered by that law must be kept for seven years after the end of the calendar year in which the financial year ended.

Your rights
You have the right to know which personal data we process. You can therefore request a register extract. You also have the right to change, delete, and limit your personal data. You can at any time withdraw your consent to our processing of your personal data. You must submit a complaint to the Swedish Authority for Privacy Protection if you believe that the social security agency has processed your personal data in violation of the data protection regulation.
