If you are unemployed

If you are unemployed, it is good to know what you need to do in order to receive unemployment benefits. Therefore, we have put together a step-by-step checklist to show you how to apply for benefits.

1. 1 Register as being unemployed

   Register with the Swedish Public Employment Service, Arbetsförmedlingen, on your first day of unemployment. Notify the Public Employment Service that you are applying for benefits from Alfa-kassan.

2. 2 Apply for unemployment benefits

   It is easy to apply for benefits via our e-service Mina sidor. To be eligible for benefits, you must have worked and fulfill the requirement for benefits. If you have not worked at all, you are not entitled to benefits from an unemployment insurance fund.

3. 3 Submit certificates

   At Mina sidor you will find your To Do-list. This list contains information about what you need to send us to apply for benefits.

   You only need to send us your documents once. If you submit the same documents several times, it will take longer for us to go through your case.

4. 4 Check and submit

   Check that you have completed all the tasks on your To Do-list and that the information is correct.

   If you are sending your documents by post, check that you have filled in everything. Then post them to:

   Alfa-kassan
   FE 69
   938 88 Arjeplog

5. 5 Submit your time report

   You fill in and submit your time report via Mina sidor. Fill in the report from the week you registered as unemployed with Arbetsförmedlingen.

6. 6 Additional information

   Sometimes we need more information to make a decision on your case. You can see which certificates you need to complete and submit at Mina sidor.

7. 7 Decision regarding your application

   We will notify you when we have made a decision on your case. If you have any questions, you can send a message directly to us via Mina sidor.

8. 8 Register bank account

   If you have been granted benefits, we will make the payments to you via Swedbank. Register the account you want the payment to be made to at Swedbank’s account register. Do this regardless of which bank you have. On the same page, you can also see if you have already registered an account, and if so, which one.

   If you have not registered a bank account with the account register, we will send you a payment notice by post. You can then redeem your notice online with Swedbank.
