If you resign from your job

If you resign, you usually receive 45 suspension days from unemployment benefits. This means that you won't receive benefits at once. But there are some reasons why you won't be suspended.

What should I do if I have resigned?

If you have resigned from your job and want to apply for unemployment benefits, you may need to serve suspension days before receiving any benefits. Even if you think you will be suspended, you should:

  • Register with Arbetsförmedlingen on your first day of unemployment.

  • Submit your benefit application through Mina sidor.

  • Send in your time reports.

Keep submitting your time reports during the suspension so we can deduct your suspension days.

When can I start receiving benefits if I am suspended?

You can start receiving benefits after all your suspension days have been deducted, or after 112 calendar days from your last day of employment—whichever comes first. After 112 days, your suspension is over, regardless of how many suspension days have been deducted.

Before receiving benefits, you have 2 qualifying days, which are days when no benefits are paid. Suspension days and qualifying days are not deducted from your 300 benefit days.

How are suspension days counted?

We count suspension days based on the time reports you submit. A maximum of 5 suspension days per week can be deducted.

Reasons you may not be suspended

There are several reasons why you may not be suspended if you resign. For example:

  • Your employer didn’t pay your salary.

  • You became sick due to your work and cannot switch to other duties.

  • You experienced bullying or harassment at work.

Always submit documentation supporting the reason for your resignation.
