Benefit

If you become unemployed, you can apply for unemployment benefits from us. We pay out basic benefits and income based benefits to our members. Unlike other unemployment insurance funds, we also pay out basic benefits to those who are not members of Alfa-kassan or any other unemployment insurance funds. Apply for benefits via Mina sidor. If you have not worked at all you are not eligible for benefits.

Here below you can read about the differences between the basic and the income based benefit.

The basic benefit

You can receive the basic benefit if you:

  • have turned 20 years old, if you are not 20 years old, you cannot receive the basic benefit
  • are not a member, or if you have been a member for less than 12 months.

The basic benefit is based on the number of hours you have worked. The maximum payment is SEK 510 per day. If you are not a member you pay an administration fee of SEK 7 for each day you receive benefits.

The income based benefit

You can receive the income based benefit if you:

  • have been a member for 12 consecutive months or longer, membership in another unemployment insurance fund can be counted as well

The income based benefit is based on the number of hours you have worked and your previous income.  The income based benefit is a maximum of SEK 1 200 per day and is paid as follows:

  • Day 1-100: you can receive a maximum of 80% of your previous income, up to a maximum of SEK 1 200 per day of payment.
  • Day 101-200: you can receive a maximum of 80% of your previous income, up to a maximum of SEK 1 000 per day of payment.
  • Day 201-300: you can receive a maximum of 70% of your previous income, up to a maximum of SEK 1 000 per day of payment. If you have a child/children under 18 years of age you can receive this amount until day 450.

Good to know about the benefits

  • You can receive benefits for 300 compensation days, for a maximum of 5 days a week.
  • If you have children under the age of 18, you will automatically receive an additional 150 days, for a total of 450 days of benefits.
  • We check when you have about 70 benefit days left of your 300 or 450 days, to see if you have met a new work requirement. If you have met a new work requirement, you may be eligible for a new benefit period.
  • You can receive the benefit until the end of the month before your 66th birthday. For example, if your 66th birthday is in June, you will receive benefits until 31 May.
  • If you spend time participating in one of the Public Employment Service’s programs and receive an activity grant from Försäkringskassan then these days will also be counted as compensatory days.
  • When you receive benefits, payment only starts after 2 qualifying days (karensdagar). These are days for which you do not receive benefits and are not deducted from your 300 days of benefits.
  • If you are enrolled in a program through the Swedish Public Employment Service, you must apply for activity grant from the Swedish Social Insurance Agency. Contact the Swedish Social Insurance Agency for more information.
  • The benefit is taxable and counts as pensionable income.
  • The government decides how much you get from the unemployment insurance funds and all unemployment insurance funds follow the same laws and rules.
