Privacy policy

Our privacy policy entails information about how we use and store your personal data. At Alfa-kassan we protect your integrity and it is important that you feel secure in how we handle your personal data. You have the right to receive information about the personal data that we handle and when it is processed. Alfa-kassan is responsible for personal data and must provide information both when the data is collected and if you request it. Your personal data is processed in accordance with the provisions of the data protection regulation, GDPR.

What is personal data?

Personal data is any kind of information that can be directly or indirectly linked to a natural person. Examples of personal data are name, social security number, postal address, and e-mail address. We process your personal data, among other things, in connection with you applying for membership at Alfa-kassan or applying for benefits from us. You have the right to know when we collect data about you. This applies both when you provide information yourself or when we receive information about you from someone else.

Who can we give your personal data to?

To handle your case with us, we release and collect your personal data from various actors. For example, we provide information to the Employment Service, the Swedish Social Insurance Agency, the Swedish Tax Agency, Swedbank, and the Central Study Support Board (CSN).

How do we use your personal data?

The unemployment insurance funds are associations that have a statutory mandate to exercise public authority.

We need to process your personal data in order to fulfil our statutory mission. We do this mainly with the support of the General Data Protection Regulation as part of our exercise of authority, a public interest or because we have legal obligations.

In isolated cases, we may process your personal data based on your consent. For example, if you want us to disclose information about you to safety organisations. When we use consent as a legal basis, we will inform you of this when we ask for your consent.

We process your personal data for one or more of the following purposes:

  • Information and counselling
  • Managing memberships, ongoing registrations and leavings
  • Investigating the right to unemployment benefits and paying unemployment benefits
  • Control work and to prevent erroneous payments
  • Recovering incorrectly paid benefits and related debt management
  • Comply with the laws and regulations that apply to our activities
  • Developing our operations and service to you as a member and/or recipient of benefits
  • Develop and test our systems to ensure that our operations are carried out in a safe manner
  • Statistics and research

How long is your personal data saved?

According to the GDPR, we may not save personal data for a longer period than is necessary. When the data is no longer needed, it is deleted. The data may, however, be kept for historical, statistical, or scientific purposes which are defined in the unemployment fund’s archive regulations.

It is required by The Accounting Act also that the unemployment insurance fund must save data for a certain period. The data covered by that law must be kept for seven years after the end of the calendar year in which the financial year ended.

Your rights

You have the right to receive information and can request a register extract on which personal data is processed by us. You have the right to change, delete and limit your personal data. If you want to withdraw your consent to the processing of your personal data, you can do so at any time. If you believe that the social security agency has processed your personal data in violation of the data protection regulation, you must submit a complaint to the Swedish Authority for Privacy Protection.
