Temporary rules for the self-employed removed

During the pandemic, temporary rules were introduced for the self-employed. These rules meant that a business could be dormant several times without affecting the right to benefits. Business owners could also promote their businesses and update their websites and social media.

As of January 1, 2024, the temporary rules will be removed. This means that you may still be entitled to compensation while your business is dormant. However, you must wait at least 3 years after resuming your business before you can put your business on hold again and meanwhile receive compensation. It also means that you cannot market your business or update your website or social media while your business is dormant.
