On June 18, the Swedish Parliament approved the government’s proposal for a new unemployment insurance. Under the new insurance, benefits will be based on income and applicants must meet an income condition.

The benefits will be based on your income and how long you have been a member of an unemployment insurance fund. During the time you are unemployed, your benefits will gradually decrease.

The unemployment insurance funds will be able to retrieve income information directly from the Swedish Tax Agency, which will hopefully make things easier for the unemployed, employers, and the unemployment insurance funds.

The new unemployment insurance will come into force on October 1, 2025, and we will provide more information about the new insurance later on.
